Urban disorder: A new bus station at Olembe
Through the activation of this infrastructure, the Yaoundé 1er town hall also plans to fight against insecurity
Soon the end of urban disorder in Yaoundé 1. To fight against incivism, insalubrity and insecurity on its territory, the municipality has found a solution. This Thursday, February 4, 2021, it commissioned the new bus station, not far from the interchange, in the Olembe district, at the western exit of the city of Yaoundé. The official launching ceremony of the activities of this bus station was chaired that day by one of the deputies to the mayor of Yaoundé 1er. For Ha Didja Cherif, this infrastructure should be the showcase of the city of Yaoundé in that it is located at one of its main entrances.Indeed, from this bus station the capital of Cameroon will serve the cities of the departments of Mbam-et-kim (Obala, Ebebda, Sa’a, Batchenga) and Mbam and Inoubou (Bafia, Ombessa, Ndikinimeki, Makenene). At the same time, Olembe station will allow passengers to travel to towns in the west of the country. From a technical standpoint, this revamped station has a hangar to protect users against bad weather, seating places for passengers and a large space reserved for parking transport vehicles. On the outskirts, retail spaces have been made available to traders.The commissioning of this bus station today puts an end to the problems of illegal parking on the approaches to the main road, an object of urban disorder, insalubrity and insecurity observed on this axis. According to Hadidja Cherif, « a vast operation to raise awareness among the populations, transporters and promoters of the transport sector on these axes, will extend over several days ». The objective of this campaign is to focus on the good management of the Olembé bus station, and to fight against the incivism of drivers.
