CREATION OF BANK BRANCHES : Afriland and Bange Bank Stars since 2021

With 20 and 9 branches opened respectively between 2021 and 2023, Afriland First Bank and Bange Bank represent the strong trend that is putting a brake on the networking of the territory and at the same time plying with the digitalization of banking services, with the extension of geographical branches.

With the digitalization, banking services are equally multiplying their growth with the creation of physical branches working hand in hand with electronic wallets and even banking applications.

In the competition of proximity to customers, Afriland First Bank is housed at the lamplight the launche of its application (Sara) in 2019, it has continued to expand its branch network. In 2021, the bank sprouts with more than sustained increase in its capital from 20 to 50 billion FCFA. One year after the capital increase, the network has grown from 51 to 59 branches. The dynamics have reached a crescendo ; in October 2023, the bank headed by Celestin Guela Simo totaled 71 branches, an increase of 12 branches over one year. In addition to these 71 branches, Afriland First Bank offers its customers three Islamic finance counters and a subsidiary dedicated to financial markets (Afriland Stock Exchange & Investment).

On the ground, many agency construction sites are underway, including the new agency to be delivered in Obala by the end of the year.

Very active in the networking of the territory in recent years, Bgfi Bank Cameroon is located in the same dynamic as Afriland First Bank. After doubling its capital, which amounts to 20 billion FCFA, it adopted a new Retail Banking policy by early 2022, in order to be closer to individuals. Very quickly, its formerly sparse network – which was normal considering its segment of activity – expanded with new agencies : Biyem-assi, Etoudi, Odza and Omnisports. New agencies have been opened in the cities of Bafoussam, Bamenda, Kribi and Garoua at the rate of one agency per city. This brings to 22, the number of Bgfi Bank branches operating in Cameroon.

In the same light, Societe General Cameroon Bank, subsidiary of the French group is not on the fringes of this trend to network the territory. On January 15, 2021, the SGC inaugurated a new agency In the city of Dschang, the 4th in the western region. She then proceeded, to the inauguration of Tsinga agency in Yaoundé in 2022 and in March 2023, it opened its 12th agency in the city of Yaoundé untill the 44th throughout the national territory. Later in July, the French group’s subsidiary increased its number of branches to 45 by anchoring on Olembé. The strategy is clear : strengthen its geographical network on the Cameroonian national territory.

The opening of the CCA-Bank on her side has opened its 47th branch on July 13, in the Yaoundé 4 municipality. In her keynote speech, CCA-Bank’s Managing Director, Marguerite Fonkwen Atanga, explained that the bank is committed to “Investing in customer relations for inclusive and sustainable growth” with the ultimate aim of improving customer relations. Signs of the times : in the space of a year, CCA-Bank has grown from 43 branches (2022) to 49 branches, 5 of which opened in 2023.
