Johnson & Johnson vaccine: 22 billion FCFA disbursed for 5 million doses

Manaouda Malachie received 158 thousand 400 doses on August 8.  This delivery strengthens the supply of Covid-19 vaccines.

Cameroon received, Saturday August 8, as part of the response against Covid-19, 158,400 doses of the Johnson and Jonhson vaccine.  « This delivery strengthens the supply of Covid-19 vaccines in Cameroon to meet the growing demand of the population, » said Professor Louis Richard Njock, Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsanté).  They will be deployed from this day in the vaccination centers.  According to it, this is the first « allocation » of the 5 million 300 thousand doses of the American vaccine acquired by the government on its own funds.  Cost of financing $ 40 million.  That is just over 22 billion FCFA supported by the state budget, in partnership with Afreximbank as part of the African Union initiative and Africa CDC.  « This is a safety measure for populations who increasingly demand vaccines to ensure their protection against Covid-19, » said Prof. Njock.According to health officials, « The vaccination shows positive results in significantly reducing the case fatality and represents a real hope to end the pandemic and rebuild the economies so durably affected. »  Note that on July 21, 2021, the country received a donation of 303,050 doses of said vaccine from the US government through the Covax facility, as part of its contribution to the global efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.  It is a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and one of the most popular vaccines currently in the vaccine response.  It has many advantages for Cameroon, in particular as its administration in a single dose and its effectiveness on the South African, British and Delta variants « some of which are already circulating at low noise in the country », inform the health officials.
