YOOMEE MOBILE S.A : Jean Marie Olicard Resigns as CEO

The Director General of the Cameroonian telecommunications company left his post at Yoomee Mobile S.A on June 5, 2023, just less than a year after his appointment to this position.

According to a source from Yoomee Mobile, Jean Marie Olicard has resigned from his position CEO by email as General Manager of the company without prior notification. “The Managing Director could not take it anymore, because all the reforms to revive this company that he proposed to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, did not receive a favorable response from him. He ended up believing that the latter is himself the thorn that prevents the company from taking off”.

“The arrival of Mr. Olicard is timely to achieve our goal of exponential growth. Given his experience and his human qualities, we hope that under his leadership, the new General Management will bring about the change for which we have been working for a long time,” Jean Ndjamba Mbeleck, the president of the Yoomee Mobile S.A. Holding Company, optimistically affirmed in August 2022, when Jean Marie Olicard took over as head of this telecommunications company. Finally, the French manager will have spent only 10 months at the head of the company Yoomee S.A.

We also learn that the relations between the General Manager and the Chairman of the Board of Directors have deteriorated over the months, even as Jean Marie Olicard directed the company towards new partnerships, in particular with Campost, for the payment of taxes via the Yoomee mobile platform, with Cameroonian Customs. With the partnership, he also intended to ease the payment of foreign trade transactions and operations via the Yoomee mobile “All in One” platform, or, with Camwater, the December 21, 2022, for the payment of consumption bills through the network.

However, Jean Marie Olicard took office at a time when Yoomee mobile S.A. was going through turbulences marked by layoffs, social tensions and a loss of market share. The internal malaise also included to delays in salaries, arrears of social contributions, heavy supplier and technical debt, demotivation of staff among others. Recall that Jean-Marie Olicard, former Deputy General Manager of Orange Cameroon, succeeded Aimé-César Ngalle, who replaced Jules César Lengue, Interim General Manager, after the departure of Emmanuel Forson in 2018.

Created in 2011, YooMee Mobile Cameroon reached the milestone in February 2017, by signing a partnership with Camtel to become a full Mvmo (Mobile Virtual Network Operator).
